If a number looks wrong, use Report a data issue inside the app rather than writing from scratch. It fills in what you were calculating, which figures it used and where they came from — which is most of what is needed to work out whether the app is wrong or the drawing is.
If the app will not answer
That is usually deliberate. PipeMetric refuses rather than guessing in three situations, and each one says which it is on screen:
- No verified source. Threaded and grooved take-outs, valve face-to-face dimensions and catalogue fitting weights are not shipped, because source verification, field mapping or redistribution permission is incomplete. The screen names the document that holds the number.
- The dimension is ambiguous. A run beside a concentric reducer, or a fitting your company data describes twice, is a question rather than an answer. Choose which applies and it resolves.
- The reading is not stated. Thirty-eight inches centre-to-centre and thirty-eight inches end-to-end are different cuts, so where the drawing has not said, PipeMetric asks.
For an unsupported reference, you can enter a known dimension or import your shop's table as Company Supplied data. Ambiguous geometry still needs the correct dimension convention and applicable fitting to be selected.
Using your own data
Company Data holds your shop's take-outs, torque values and conventions. Import a CSV, select a table image or enter figures by hand. Values you supply outrank PipeMetric's own, and every cut says which table produced it.
AR measurement
Measurements from a phone are field estimates, not metrology. PipeMetric states a tolerance band with every one, and you can measure your own device against a tape — readings at five distances — to assess repeatability and a calibration correction for that device. The default tolerance band is a conservative estimate, not a completed accuracy validation. Confirm any dimension used to cut, weld or order with a tape or calibrated instrument. Every corrected number says whose calibration corrected it.
Open Measure → Calibrate this device → Start calibration. Record repeated comparisons with tape-marked lengths. A fitted distance correction affects Distance and Clearance; the error-band calibration is a separate setting. The iPhone 14 Pro Max also offers an optional provisional preset based on four indoor readings from one device. It is not an Apple specification or a model-wide accuracy guarantee. Your own fitted correction can replace it. Use Turn off distance correction on the calibration screen to return to uncorrected readings.
What the app admits about itself
PipeMetric publishes its own limitations rather than waiting to be asked. Inside the app, Sources lists every dataset, where it came from and what it does not cover; Verification under any answer shows the method, the engine version and every figure the answer touched.
Saving your work
A temporary-storage banner means work may be lost when the app closes; export it before leaving. A failed save is reported on screen. Keep an entry form open, or use Retry save for a retained spool edit, until saving succeeds.
Requests
Missing fittings, materials or calculations are worth writing about. The most useful request names the document the figures come from — that is usually the difference between something that can be added and something that cannot.
