What we checked, and what we found. We read KDOT 2015 Standard Specifications and found no provision requiring a daily traffic-control diary, log or inspection report in Division 800 / Section 805 Work Zone Traffic Control & Safety. That is a finding, not a gap in our research: in this state the documentation obligation appears to sit in agency manuals, forms and project special provisions rather than in the standard specifications. Check your contract's special provisions, which control.

How we know: Full-text search of KDOT 2015 Standard Specifications, covering Division 800 / Section 805 Work Zone Traffic Control & Safety. Re-searched 2026-09-05 with a corrected pattern that also matches verb forms (“Inspect … daily”, “Record inspections”); still no provision found. Verified 2026-09-05.

On federal-aid work, 23 CFR 630 Subparts J and K apply whatever Kansas specifies, with a compliance date of December 31, 2026 — the federal floor, explained. And after an incident the questions come from the incident, not the specification: 105 published judicial matters on that.

Filing a work-zone request in Kansas?

Draw the closure on a map and the builder reads the route, mileposts and county from Kansas’s own public GIS, checks bridge clearance on the route and the detour, and exports a WZDx feature, a PDF or an email. It runs in the browser — nothing is submitted or stored.
