What we checked, and what we found. We read NDOT 2017 Standard Specifications and found no provision requiring a daily traffic-control diary, log or inspection report in Sections 419 and 422 (Traffic Control Management; Temporary Traffic Control Signs and Devices). That is a finding, not a gap in our research: in this state the documentation obligation appears to sit in agency manuals, forms and project special provisions rather than in the standard specifications. Check your contract's special provisions, which control.

How we know: Full-text search of NDOT 2017 Standard Specifications, covering Sections 419 and 422 (Traffic Control Management; Temporary Traffic Control Signs and Devices). Re-searched 2026-09-05 with a corrected pattern that also matches verb forms (“Inspect … daily”, “Record inspections”); still no provision found. Verified 2026-09-05.

On federal-aid work, 23 CFR 630 Subparts J and K apply whatever Nebraska specifies, with a compliance date of December 31, 2026 — the federal floor, explained. And after an incident the questions come from the incident, not the specification: 105 published judicial matters on that.
